Charlock Castle is the castle in which the Dragonlord resides in Dragon Warrior and Zoma resides in Dragon Warrior III. It was first used by Zoma but after his defeat the Dragonlord eventually made the castle his ownIt is located south of Tantegel and Brecconary and is separated from them by only a small river.  In the first Dragon Warrior and in Dragon Warrior III the only way to access the island Charlock is located on is to create a bridge using the rainbow drop made from the stones of sunlight and staff of rain.  In Dragon Warrior II you can reach Charlock Castle by boat instead.  Erdrick's Sword is hidden in the depths of Charlock in the first Dragon Warrior.

Charlock Castle is the older localization term that refers both to the Dragonlord's castle and to Zoma's Citadel. This unifying name did not exist in the original Japanese version, where distinct names were used for the two locations. This separation has been reflected in Square Enix's modern localization, leading to the retirement of the Charlock name.
However, the term is still popular with fans due to its convenient nature and the nine year gap between the beginning of the new localization standards in 2005 and the release of the smart phone Version of the original game in 2014.
