Dragon Quest Tact[edit | edit source]

Firebird appears as a B-rank monster of the Nature family as part of the original Dragon Quest V event. It can be scouted from Lower Level West of the Knightmare Towers at any difficulty, eventually becoming recruitable in the second part of the storyline from Chapter 4, Episode 4: A Night-Time Incident. The firebird can participate in the Battle Roads of Kon the Knight, Thunderbird, Ramia, Blossom Cannibox, and King Korol as a party member.

  • In the original Japanese, the Firebird is known as ひくいどり (Hi kui dori, lit. Fire-eating bird?), a name which is used to refer to the Southern cassowary, a large flightless bird from Australia and Papua New Guinea in the real world believed to be named due to the red wattle on its neck. Its description in various games even states that firebirds have a diet of lava and fire.
  • Its original English translation, Phoenix, is a sacred immortal bird associated with Greek mythology that cyclically regenerates itself or is born again after bursting into flames. Firebirds are mythological creatures that are found in various cultures across the world.
