The Flython and their cousins are hybrids of three genus of real world snakes; they combine the size of ''Pythonidae'', the head shape and fangs of ''Viperidae'', and the hoods of ''Elapidae'' (cobras). The latter trait is a humorous exaggeration, however; where as a cobra uses its hood for intimidation and defence, the Flython uses them to set sail on air currents.
The flython and their cousins are hybrids of three genus of real world snakes; they combine the size of ''Pythonidae'', the head shape and fangs of ''Viperidae'', and the hoods of ''Elapidae'' (cobras). The flython uses its sail-like gills to set glide on air currents on moonlit nights.
