In the Super Famicom version, Goober, here named Rookie, is offered as a prize for completing the Slime Arena.

In the Nintendo DS remake and its mobile phone port, Goober can be found sulking in the slime den at Slimopolis, just as in the Super Famicom Version. He mopes about his piddling potential and hopes to become as capable as the Slime the player enters into the competition one day. Once the player has conquered Slimopolis the owner of the monster arena, Sledge, will offer Goober to the player in the hopes that they can galvanize the glob and make him the best he can be.
