| ==Story==
| | {{disambig}} |
| You are a descendant of Erdrick (see [[Dragon Warrior III]]), spoken of in prophecy. The game begins as you are summoned to Tantegel castle, where you are charged with two quests: find and rescue the princess Gwaelin, and defeat the Dragonlord to claim the Ball of Light, a legendary artifact with the power to destroy evil.
| | Dragon Warrior refers to several of the following: |
| | | *The original English title for {{DQ}} and other games in the {{Main Series}} franchise until {{DQ8}} |
| ==Gameplay==
| | *The English title for the anime {{Abel Yuusha}}. |
| The gameplay of Dragon Warrior is what is now considered the "classic RPG" style. It is a simple tile movement system where you have to select options such as "search" or "door" from a pull down menu to utilize any actions. Battles are random and turn based. The gameplay is slow and simulates a very "Dungeons and Dragons" type speed. You adventure on, more for the story, and less for the action. This type of gameplay became a staple for the Dragon Quest series (although it would see modifications along the way) and paved the way for later games such as Final Fantasy. | | *The name for [[Mandrake marauder]] in the fan translated version of {{DQ5}} for the {{Super Famicom}}. |
