Lanson serves as the only access point to the [[Gia's Navel]] dungeon.  This can be accessed anytime after visiting Lanson, but must be completed by the Hero ''alone''.   
A nun has been placed in the town and there is a [[List of recruitable monsters in Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake|wandering cureslime]] hiding in the grove of trees, but beyond that Lanson has not been changed much in the conversion to HD. The desert leading to [[Gaia's Navel]] has been reprogrammed to only be home to weaker monsters, however, likely a player convenience when returning from that dungeon's solo mission.
