The Saintess shield is a recurring shield in the Dragon Quest series, introduced in Dragon Quest VIII. Embellished with the enchanting figure of a holy woman, the shield is often reserved for the fairer sex and greatly reduces elemental damage.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King

The Saintess shield offers a defense bonus of +46. It can only be equipped by Jessica, as well as Red in the Nintendo 3DS port, and cuts fire and ice breath by 33.3%. The in-game description for the shield erroneously states that it reduces the damage by two-thirds rather than to two-thirds.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

Starting with this game, the saintess shield became a light pink and red colored version of the Goddess shield and is also unisex, rather than limited to female characters.

Characters need to be level 80 before they can equip the Saintess shield. It increases defence by +7, block rate by +4.5%, magical might by +3, magical mending by +3, style by +10, and weight by +12. It will reduce all spell damage by 5%.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

A Saintess Shield is a rare drop off a Dark Dullahan, which are found in the Fortress of Fear - Level 1. It an be used by the Luminary and the final party member. By default it has a Defense of 46, a Block Chance of 11%, Charm of 19, and it provides an Elemental Damage Reduction of 7%.

Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below

The Saintess shield has a blocking bonus of +30 and can only be equipped by Aurora. It can be purchased after defeating the Barbatos at Yggdrasil for 8,400 gold and can be sold for 4,200 gold.

The Saintess shield's countenance in VIII is based on the Silver shield's design prior to VII.
