The Tearwolf is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in the original Dragon Quest.
Characteristics
Tearwolves are bipedal wolfmen with blue tunics and boots. They wear belts with a purple gemstone as a buckle around their waists. The wolves were originally depicted with golden coats and purple tunics, but in later appearances, their fur became a darker orange color and their tunics and boots are now dark blue. Unlike their brown-furred cousins, the tearwolves forgo any kind of spellcasting ability in favor of greater physical attributes. In later games, they began utilizing Tension to deliver attacks of greater ferocity against their opponents.
