The tortoise shell, also known as the turtle shell, turtle armor, or shell suit, is a recurring set of armor in the Dragon Quest series. This large shell serves as makeshift protection, and does not slow down the wearer.

The tortoise shell has a defence bonus of +15, and it can be worn by Mages, Merchants and Gadabouts. It can be purchased in Reeve for 330 gold.

Dragon Quest V

The tortoise shell has a defense bonus of +33.

Dragon Quest VI

The tortoise shell may be equipped by Nevan, Amos, and all of the slime recruits. It provides +33 defense, -15 style, and costs 2,500g.
