The yggdrasil leaf is a recurring item in the Dragon Quest series. The leaves take their name from the World Tree of Norse mythology.

Yggdrasil leaves are used to revive characters who have been killed in battle. Due to their usefulness, Yggdrasil leaves are by far the rarest nonessential items in the game; they usually cannot be purchased, only collected from chests, and in many cases the player can only ever find one or two in the entire game world. In games where the Yggdrasil can be climbed, a player may obtain a leaf by searching in the fantastic foliage.

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line

GameDescription
A miraculous, life-giving leaf.[1]

The leaves first appear in Dragon Quest II. The greater tree is located in the single forest tile on an island east of Burrowell, and players can pluck one by searching the spot. In the remakes of II, there is a newly added sub-quest which requires the player to acquire the leaf at least once in order to cure the Prince of Cannock's catatonic curse.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation

In Dragon Quest III, the leaf can be found in the large forest area in the portion of the world map that corresponds to real-life China. Within the forest, the player must search at the intersecting tile of 4 single mountain tiles. Magmalices and voodoogooders also have a small chance to drop them.

Alefgard Glitch

In the original version of Dragon Quest III, an additional leaf could be found in the world of Alefgard. By searching in the same tile location the leaf has in the light world, a duplicate can be found in the dark world. This glitch was fixed in the 16-bit remake.

A leaf can easily be found on the branches on the Yggdrasil tree itself, though only one can be obtained at a time. In the remakes players can have three at once provided that they get one off the branches, and get the other two which are found by:

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride

They can be found in treasure chests in Gotha Path, Knightmare Towers and Stairway to Zenithia. It can also be found in the Casino in Fortuna as a prize item that costs 1000 tokens. The enemies corpse corporal (1/64), cureslime (1/64), king slime (1/32) and orobas (1/32) can also drop them (their chance of dropping them is displayed in parentheses).

The enemies Orobas and snake handler will sometimes use these items in battle to revive enemies you've slain, but note that Snake handlers don't drop this item.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation

In VI, the leaf is available as a casino prize at two of the three casinos in the world. It costs 1,000 casino tokens, and the party is not limited to one leaf as in other games.

The leaf is also part of the following alchemy recipes:
