Musk (Originally Scent puch) is an attractant the Dragon Quest series.
That is, it increases the frequency of random encounters. This can be useful for searching for metal monsters or obtaining item drops if you don't have access to Whistle.
In Dragon Quest IV, they can be purchased for 150 gold coins in Dunplundrin, Canalot & Rosehill.
Dragon Quest V has a similar item, called Monster munchies.
