Milly | The name Milly is often used as a diminutive of names like ''Camille'', ''Millicent'', and ''Mildred''.<ref>[https://www.behindthename.com/name/milly Milly on Behind the Name]</ref>Mildred is derived from the Old English name Mildþryð, which means "gentle strength", while Millicent derives from the Old French name Melisende. Her name in Japanese (ミレーユ ''Mirēyu'') was probably intended to be ''Mireille'', a name used in both French and Dutch. Mireille is an uncommon name in France, except in the Provence region, and is derived from the Occitan name ''Mirèio''. It is believed to be related to the Occitan verb ''mirar'', which means "to look, to admire" or related to the names ''Miriam'' or ''Maria''. | ||

Milly (ミレーユ, Mirēyu?) is a playable party member in Dragon Quest VI and major character in its prequel, Dragon Quest Monsters. In the former game, she is the second character to join forces with the Hero and in the latter her absence drives the plot forward.
Appearance and Personality
Milly dresses in a blue overcoat with white pants and blouse, and a breastplate from which her yellow streamers extend and are then wrapped around her waist like a sash. She carries a lavender bag around her waist. Her accessories include a tiara with matching necklace, two silver wristbands, and two plain torcs on her upper arms. She has light green eyes and her long blonde hair reaches past her back and is worn in a silver hairband. Milly is repeatedly described by a wide variety of NPCs as being very beautiful and elegant, traits that have caused her great hardship in the past.
Ever polite and compassionate, Milly keeps a calming, almost motherly air about herself that belies her young age. Though no true facade, this outer personality masks the scars of a harsh childhood, and hides a deeply rooted sense of longing to be close to others. It's because of the somber past that Milly possesses an indomitable sense of courage, as evidenced by her volunteering to assist in the attack on Murdaw's Keep at the beginning of the game.
This is not to say that the young woman is perpetually serious, however; Party Chat and scripted cut-scenes reveal a sprightliness rivaling Ashlynn's, with Milly often succumbing to bouts of laughter and beaming smiles. Her Lucky Dip antics further reveal a strong interest in dancing, as well as dabbling in amateur fortune telling.

Dragon Quest Monsters
Milayou is kidnapped during the first scene of the game by a creature known as Warubou, who takes her to GreatLog for an unknown reason. It is likely that the kingdom was searching for a contender in the Starry Night Tournament, though this is only alluded to and not outright stated.
Around the end of the game, when her brother Terry enters the final rounds of the Starry Night Tournament, it is revealed that Milayou has been taking care of herself the entire time and, instead of needing to be rescued, has become the current champion. Her party consists of a MetalKing, a RainHawk, and a Coatol.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3
A golden statue of young Milly appears in the Internet communication plaza in the game, with a plaque that states she was a grand champion who won more than 30 matches in a row with her team.
Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road II
Milly can be summoned to perform the Master Dragon attack by scanning the Angel Eyes special card. She rides in on the back of the mysterious dragon, then plays her ocarina and calls it forth to breathe out blazing fire at the enemies. Her title in the game is Dream Fortune Teller (夢占い師,, Yume uranaishi?).
Dragon Quest Tact
Milly appears in the Japanese version of the game in both her original appearance during the True Dragon Quest VI event or in her young appearance from Dragon Quest Monsters. Both are S-rank members of the Hero family.

Etymology
The name Milly is often used as a diminutive of names like Camille, Millicent, and Mildred.[1]Mildred is derived from the Old English name Mildþryð, which means "gentle strength", while Millicent derives from the Old French name Melisende. Her name in Japanese (ミレーユ Mirēyu) was probably intended to be Mireille, a name used in both French and Dutch. Mireille is an uncommon name in France, except in the Provence region, and is derived from the Occitan name Mirèio. It is believed to be related to the Occitan verb mirar, which means "to look, to admire" or related to the names Miriam or Maria.
