The '''Gringham whip''' is a recurring [[Whip (weapon type)|whip]] in the series.

The Gringham whip is often the most powerful whip in each game and frequently has one of the highest Attack bonuses of all weapons. It has had three distinctive designs throughout the series' history. In the Super Famicom versions of ''III'', ''V'', and ''VI'', the gringham whip had a beautiful silver and gold handle with a filigree design, decorated with various red and blue gemstones, and featured three lashes with deadly blades at the ends. The second design, featured in ''VII'', as well as remake versions of ''IV'', ''V'', and ''VI'', consists of a blue and teal-coloured handle with three lashes, each with a sharp arrowhead-shaped blade at the end, as well as another arrowhead-shaped blade on the end of the handle. Starting with ''VIII'', the gringham whip now had a red and gold handle and three teal cords braided into a single lash with three arrowhead-shaped blades at the end, along with one of the same blades on the back of the handle. This was done in order to have all whips in the game have the same attack animations.  

The gringham whip was added in the 1996 remake and it has an attack bonus of +105. It can be wielded by the [[Hero (Dragon Quest III)|Hero]], [[Warrior]]s, [[Thief|Thieves]], [[Gadabout]]s, and [[Sage]]s. One can be found at the Dragon Queen's [[Pachisi]] Track, another is found in the [[Ice Cave]] in the GBC version. It only appears in remake versions of the game. In the mobile version, it is the final prize obtained from the [[mini medal]] collector in [[Aliahan]] after turning in 100 medals.

The Gringham whip has an {{Attack}} bonus of +100 and can be equipped by [[Bianca]], [[Nera]], [[Debora]], [[Harry]], the [[Hero's daughter|daughter]], {{Prestidigitator R}}, {{Ghost R}}, {{Hulagan R}}, {{Old man of the sea R}}, {{Epipany R}}, {{Wiz pip R}}, {{Conkuistador R}}, {{Conkjurer R}}, {{Powie yowie R}}, {{Cross eye R}}, {{Flamethrower R}}, {{Minidemon R}}, {{Hellion R}}, and {{Beastmaster R}}. It can be purchased as a [[Casino]] prize for 250,000 tokens. A diligent player is able to obtain the whip as early as the events at [[Fortuna]] if they earn enough tokens. It can be sold for 10,000 gold (15,000 in the original Super Famicom version), but it is not recommended to do so due to its rarity.

The Gringham whip is [[List of treasures in Dragon Quest Treasures|Treasure No. 17]] in the Weapons category and can be found at [[Cinderback Ridge]]. Its base value is 22,000,000 gold. A similar, knock-off version of the weapon known as the [[greengum whip]] can also be found in the game.
