Fatal Flash is a recurring sword skill in the Dragon Quest series. The user focuses intensely, then draws their sword quickly in the blink of an eye to deliver a potentially lethal slash before returning it to its scabbard.
Appearances
Dragon Quest XI
Erik can learn Fatal Flash through the Swords panel in his character builder for 20 skill points after it has been expanded in the second act. It costs 8 MP to use, deals 250% damage to a single enemy, and has about a 40% chance of instantly killing them. The chance of success for instant death also depends on the enemy's resistance, as well. When used in conjunction with Erik's other skills such as Divide, it has the potential to deal massive amounts of damage.
- In the Nintendo 3DS version and the 2D mode of the Definitive Edition, Fatal Flash will always land regardless if Erik has been dazzled or based on the enemy's evasion or their ability to parry or block.
Dragon Quest Rivals
Fatal Flash appeared as a rare card exclusive for Thief leaders in the 9th card pack, "Reunion and Oath of Lotozetasia". It cost 8 MP to use and would deal 4 damage to one enemy, but its cost would be reduced by the amount of cards that were added to the player's hand that were not in the deck.

Trivia
The animation for Fatal Flash is based on the practice of iaijutsu, where a swordsman is capable of drawing their katana from its scabbard, striking or slashing an opponent, shaking blood off of the blade, then replacing the sword in its scabbard all with smooth, controlled movements.
