The golden axe is a recurring weapon in the Dragon Quest franchise.

Dragon Quest IX
The golden axe has an attack bonus of +26. Golden axes can be made using Alchemy by using an Iron Axe and a Gold Bar. The Golden Axe is noteworthy for being one of the few weapons that decreases in attack power when "upgraded" (along with weapons that are combined with a Reset Stone). However, this is mitigated by the fact that the Golden Axe can be upgraded into the much more powerful King Axe and further on into the Kaiser Axe, Ice Axe, and Avalanche Axe.
