==Characteristics==
Dread dragons are immense quadrupedal and wingless dragons that are covered in red scales with a light yellow underbelly. In its original appearance, the dread dragon had blue scales running down its back and tail and blue frills on the side of its head, but in later appearance, the frills and scales changed to a shade of dark pink instead. It is the mightiest quadrupedal dragon in the entire combined lands of the [[Erdrick trilogy]]. Along with despair-inducing stamina and strength, the Dread dragon can also cast simple magic. Although the dread dragon has made regular appearances in spinoff games, it did not make a return in the main series until ''XI'' like many other classic monsters.
