Dung is an item that can be found in all Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest games from Dragon Quest IV on.

Dragon Quest IV

In the NES Verison it is known as the Gum Pod, and thereafter is known as dung. It is has no known use, other than to be sold for 1 gold coin.

It can be found in Chapter 2 in a jar at the Desert Bazaar.

In Chapter 3, a shop in Reginhart will appear to be selling medicinal herbs for 8 gold coins, but it's really dung.

Dragon Quest VIII

The dung can be used for some recipes in the alchemy pot.
