The iron ant is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. It was first introduced in Dragon Quest II.
Characteristics
Iron ants are six legged insects whose body is covered with thick iron skin. They are often portrayed as having piercing red eyes. The ants have less HP than an ordinary slime, but they make up for it with their higher defence. Although they have not reappeared in the main series since their original appearance, iron ants are a regular sight in spinoff games.
Appearances
Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line
Dragon Quest Builders 2
A common sight in Furrowfield. Though incredibly weak, they tend to attack in large numbers -- especially when commanded by more powerful enemies, such as the Army ant. Such groups protect the three Dracky Stack components throughout the island, and an enormous group of the insects surround Britney shortly after she is rescued.
They also spawn in the Isle of Awakening, born from umber blocks, and on several Explorer's Shores. Notably, on Blossom Bay, they are spawned from pestilential nests.
Iron ants will occasionally drop wheat seeds when defeated.
