The Ironclad wartoise is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest VII. It is a seafaring tortoise protected by its spiked armoured shell.
Characteristics
Ironclad wartoises are immense tortoise-like monsters with dull orange skin whose bodies are protected by various pieces of armour. Its main form of protection is its brown and purple tortoise shell which has holes where metallic spikes can be protruded to harm any attackers when it retreats inside. They can bolster their already impressive defenses by casting Bounce to protect itself and its allies against any harmful spells. The tortoises can put themselves in harm's way in order to keep their fellow monsters safe. In Joker 3, the wartoise belongs to the Dragon family.
Despite its near identical appearance to the Iron tortoise, the ironclad wartoise is considered a separate monster. It was likely introduced in VII as an aquatic variant to the monster.
