The jackanape is an infrequently appearing monster that debuted in Dragon Quest III.
Characteristics
The jackanape and its relatives are vicious hybrids of baboons and gorillas that stand approximately as tall as a human. They take their temperament from the former, reacting violently at even the slightest provocation. Just like real primates, jackanapes travel in troops and won't hesitate to call for help when wounded.

Trivia
The Jackanapes bear a striking similarity to the Oozaru transformations from Akira Toriyama's manga Dragon Ball. Their name is also from "jackanapes", a monkey that was leashed as a pet.
