"You are careless… Something of a klutz, in fact…
Why do I say this…? Because you did not finish the task at hand… You left survivors in your wake…
Upon hearing this, no doubt you will trip over yourself in your rush to return to the village…
And in doing so, you will prove yet more clearly how clumsy and careless you are…
Unless you are able to act calmly and with consideration, you will never reach my dwelling place…
Perhaps you are not destined to be a hero at all…
But I have no choice… I can call upon no other…
Forgive me… I do not mean to belittle you… I must will myself to believe in you…
I pray that you do not fail me…"

In the Dragon Quest III remakes, klutz is a personality that improves agility growth, but reduces strength, wisdom, and luck growth.
At the start of the game, the Hero becomes a klutz by receiving the final test of character in the well. The Hero must leave the test after breathing fire on exactly nine NPCs, with the man hiding in the bushes being the only NPC spared. All NPCs, including the required one at the well and the dog, count toward this total.
Other party members have a chance to be a klutz when recruited as any class, depending on their stat bonuses.
An existing character cannot become a klutz through items.
