| Ramia, also known as Lamia, Empyrea, and the Godbird, is a phoenix that plays a prominent role in Dragon Warrior III and Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. She is also an obtainable monster in both Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker.
| | Ramia is the legendary bird in Dragon Quest III. It can be used as an aerial mode of transportation in the overworld of Dragon Quest III. It was the first aerial transportation in the Dragon Quest series. |

| == Dragon Warrior III == | | == Hatching == |
| | Ramia's egg is located in Leiamland. It is surrounded by 6 alters made for holding the Six Mystical Orbs. Once all 6 orbs are placed on the alters, Ramia hatches and is available for traveling. |
|
| |
|
| When first encountered at the Liamland shrine, Ramia is only an egg. In order to hatch the egg, the Hero and his/her party must gather the six orbs from around the world and place them on pedestals surrounding it. Once hatched, Ramia serves as the series' first aerial transportation, allowing access to such places as Baramos' castle and the Dragon Queen's castle. However, Ramia cannot travel to the World of Darkness.
| | == Flying == |
| | Ramia travels by air and thus avoids all enemy encounters. It is also able to travel over impassable mountains. This is necessary in order to reach the Castle of Baramos, the Castle of Dragon Queen, and Giaga Pit. |

| In the distant past, the Godbird Empyrea assisted the Seven Sages in creating the Godbird Sceptre and sealing away the demon Rhapthorne within it.
| |
| | |
| Many years later, Empyrea had laid an egg on her eyrie near Empycchu. The egg, however, was stolen by Gemon and taken to the Dark World. Although Gemon was defeated by the party, he managed to destroy the egg before dying. The soul of Empyrea's son remained, however, and became the Godbird's Soulstone, which enabled the party to take to the skies.
| |
| | |
| After Rhapthorne's resurrection, Empyrea sent the party to collect the orbs containing the spirits of the Seven Sages and gave to them the Godbird Sceptre. She also joined the party for the final battle, allowing them to travel on her wings.
| |
| | |
| Following Rhapthorne's final destruction, Empyrea carried the party back to Trodain Castle, where she revealed that her true name was, in fact, Ramia.

| Empyrea cannot be synthesized. Instead, she can only be obtained by filling the monster library. The Incarnus can only reach its Wildcard form by synthesizing it with Empyrea.
