The she-slime (originally Red Slime) is a recurring enemy in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in the very first game, they are basically reddish slimes.

Characteristics

There are not too many differences between the she-slime and its run-of-the-mill counterpart: besides color, she-slimes are usually ever so slightly stronger than slimes.

Despite the name she-slime, their genders are as ambiguous as those of regular slimes. The change from red slime may be on account that their modern interpretations, with more shades available to them then what the graphical limitations of the NES allowed, are more of an orange color than red.

Appearances

Dragon Quest

Not just the debut of the slime but the she-slime as well. They are encountered in the same spots as slimes and are just a touch stronger than they are.

Dragon Quest IV

First fought in chapter 2 and slightly stronger than regular slimes but still fairly weak.

Dragon Quest VIII

Slimes of a different color, apparently due to a sudden
mutation. Although commonly referred to as 'she-slimes',
their true gender remains unknown.

While significantly stronger than normal slimes, she-slimes are still rather weak. They can be encountered just outside Peregrin Quay and are noticeably weaker compared to previous monsters encountered, likely to help players cope with Jessica who is low-leveled at this point of the game.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker

Slimologists have recently discovered that
carnivorous slimes turn a reddish shade.

She-slimes cannot be found on any of the main islands in Green Bays, but they can occasionally be encountered on any uncharted islands players may happen across while traveling between the main locations. A she-slime can often be synthesized using a healslime and a monster of equal or lower rank of the she-slime desired.
