The morning star is a recurring flail in the Dragon Quest franchise. It is a mid-level weapon that consists of a spiked metal ball attached to a handle by a long chain. In most of the games it has appeared, the morning star is classified as a whip and inflicts damage to a single group of enemies.
Appearances
Dragon Quest III
The morning star has an attack bonus of +30. It can only be equipped by Priests and Sages. It can be purchased at Baharata, Theddon, and the Super Secret Faerie Village for 1,700 gold. In the Super Famicom and Game Boy Color versions, one can be acquired as a prize from completing the second Treasures n' Trapdoors track near Asham. It only appears in the remakes.
Dragon Quest IV
The morning star has an attack bonus of +33. The remakes of the game replace it with the Holy lance, as group-targeting weapons are mostly absent in all versions of IV.
Dragon Quest V
The morning star has an attack bonus of +45. It can be purchased for 3,000 gold in Helmunaptra, Battenberg, Lodestar Harbour, and Mostroferrato. The Hero's son, the Hero's daughter, Bianca, Nera, and Tuppence can equip it.
Dragon Quest VI
The morning star has an attack bonus of +38 and a style bonus of +14. It can be bought for 3,000 gold in Alltrades Abbey, Aridea, Wellshire, Ghent, Arkbolt, and Turnscote. It can also be sold for 2,250 gold. Ashlynn, Nevan, and Lizzie can equip it. Nevan is depicted in many illustrations to be wielding what appears to be the morning star.
Dragon Quest VII
The morning star has an attack bonus of +43 and a style bonus of +14. It can be equipped by Maribel, Sir Mervyn, and Aishe. It can be purchased at Spilton-on-Sea, Wetlock, and Providence for 5,500 gold and sold for 2,750.
Dragon Quest X
The morning star has an attack bonus of +20 and increases damage against Material family monsters by 10%. It can be equipped by Mages, Thieves, Luminaries, Monster Masters, and Fortune Tellers as long as they are at least level 21.
Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree's Woe and the Blight Below
The morning star is a whip for Jessica that has an attack bonus of +23. It can be purchased for 2,600 gold and sold for 1,300 gold.
