Her first role in the Dragon Quest series was voicing Queen Apnea in the Dragon Quest VI CD Theater in 1996. She eventually returned to voice Queen Marina in the Definitive Edition of Dragon Quest XI.
Tanaka is known for her strong and deep voice, often providing the voice of older, professional women and occasionally villainesses. She is best friends with fellow voice actress Kikuko Inoue.
