Due to their immense power, the gods only allow one Dragon Knight to be born each generation... However, something special happened during Baran's time. Fifteen years prior to the start of Dai's adventure, Baran was supposed to deal with Hadlar -who was threatening the balance in the world- but it was a human hero who vanquished Hadlar instead. Meanwhile, Baran was in the underworld fighting Velzar, the last intelligent dragon who seeked to conquer the world. After vanquishing the dragon, Baran was mortally wounded so he used his remaining strength to find the Fountain of Miracles, which is said to heal Dragon Knights. He got close to the water, but his exhaustion forbid him from reaching it. It was then he met Soala, a young human woman who helped him drink from the healing fountain. Soala was the princess of the kingdom of Alkeed. They eventually fell in love while Baran recovered from battle, and had Soala's father approval. However some vessels who didn't like a foreigner getting loser to the throne became to conspire against him. Due to his non-human nature and the recent memory of what a darkling tried not long ago, Baran was banished from the kingdom... but before leaving, Soala revealed to him that she was pregnant.
The couple then moved to a forest in Teran, where they lived peacefully for some months until their child was born. Soala proposed naming their son "Dino", which means "strong dragon" in the Alkeed language. Their happy days didn't last long and ended when a battalion of soldier from Alkeed, lead by their king who thought the dragon knight had kidnapped his daughter, found them. Baran surrendered quickly, as long as his lover and child didn't suffer any harm, to what the king agreed as long as the child was grew up somewhere else. The baby was sent to foreign land on a ship, but that ship got lost at sea and ended wrecking near Dermline Island where Brass would find him. The day of his execution, Baran was ready to accept his fate, but he didn't expect Soala to sacrifice herself to save him from the fire balls. Soala's last words encouraged Baran to find Dino and leave in peace with humanity after, but hearing Soala's father call her a disgrace for dying for a non-human filled the dragon knight with rage and hatred for humanity. His wrath soon brought the complete destruction of Alkeed kingdom. Unable to find Dino, Baran despaired and Dark King Vearn took that chance to convince him to join the Dark Army to destoy humanity.
While Dai is learning more about the Dragon Knights in the Dragon Knight Temple in Teran, Baran also enters the sanctuary. Baran reveals himself and the truth about Dragon Knights to the little hero, who is shocked to learn about his own linage. Soon after, Baran proposes his son joins the Dark Army to destroy humanity, which Dai refuses.
