The Buntzenberner, known as Gasmon in Dragon Quest Tact, is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest X. It is an elemental monster made from purple and black flames.
Characteristics
Buntzenberner is a variant of the dancing flame whose body is made up of flames in different shades of purple, with black flames closer to the center of its body. Compared to its fellow flame elementals, the Buntzenberner specialises in casting various debilitating and weakening spells and inflicting negative status effects. It is a manifestation of evil flames that preys upon those with weak hearts and minds. The Buntzenberner has a crystalline heart, the Buntzenberner Heart, at its core that, unless removed, will continuously revive the Buntzenberner even if it is defeated in battle.
Appearances
Dragon Quest X
A trio of Buntzenberners appear as the bosses of Quest #76: Longing for a Thief King. They have the ability to cast Blunt, Snooze, Fuddle, and Dazzle, can breathe out Burning Breath to inflict paralysis or a Cursed Mist. The only way to truly defeat a Buntzenberner is by stealing their Buntzenberner Heart with a Thief's Half-Inch ability.
- In the Offline version of the game, the boss battle starts with only a pair of Buntzenberners, but a third one will appear when one is defeated.
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3
