Etymology

• Infernal describes hellish or insufferably bad conditions and temperament.
• Salamander refers to the ancient Greek myth of the amphibians being born from flame. This misconception grew from the newts fleeing the logs they rested in once they were tossed into blazing hearths, and is referenced in the monster's description for The Dark Prince.
