The weapon is notable for having a chance to instantly slay any non-boss target upon contact. Despite its name, it is not a [[cursed]] item.

*In the {{SFC}} version, the spear is coded in the same way as the [[Poison needle]] and is thus guaranteed to always deal at least 1 damage.

The spear is a reward for defeating [[Gracos V]] in both versions of the game, but if he is not defeated by the reappearance of [[Estard]] then it will be lost. In the {{3DS}} version, the spear is dropped by [[Gracolyte]]s at a rate of 1/128 and is also the reward for the Ocean's Overlord [[Traveller's Tablet]].

The demon spear has an {{Attack}} bonus of +86 and the insta-kill chance has been lowered to 1/8th rate. The {{Hero 8}} can equip it. It can be sold for 12,500 {{Gold}}, but not bought. Its [[Alchemy Pot]] recipe is [[Battle fork]] + [[Poison needle]] + [[Devil's tail]].

A little known, considerably cruel combo can be pulled off by using the {{Hero 8}}'s Clean Sweep skill, as the instant death effect is checked for all enemies struck.
