Revision as of 10:13, 7 January 2024

The Funghoul is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series.

Introduced in Dragon Quest III, it is a dim-witted mushroom monster utterly dedicated to putting adventurers to Sleep with peculiar spores.

Characteristics

Funghouls are spotted, red-capped mushrooms with stalks thick enough to serve as a face and body. They have stubby arms, small feet, sad, yellow eyes, and a fanged mouth with tongue lolling out. In some spinoff games, the fungi are considered part of the Undead family as the Obake (おばけ) in their Japanese name refers to a type of yōkai or ghost in folklore.
