The great dragon is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride, it is a large, bipedal dragon covered in gold scales.

Characteristics

Great dragons are adequately described by their name: they are large dragons with wings, a long tail, horns, and golden scales that add up to make a very grand-looking creature. Due to some similarity in coloration and head shape, some fans theorize that these wondrous wyrms are the adult stage of the Small fry.

The power of the great dragon is as impressive as its looks. They are normally in command of some of the most potent breath attacks there are, have excellent strength, and tend to resist many elements. Due to this, great dragons aren't normally seen until the player nears the end of the games they appear in.

Great dragons appear for the first time, though they are not encountered until the player reaches Nadiria: essentially right before the end of the game. They can be incredibly threatening monsters thanks to their excellent elemental resistances, powerful fire breath, deliver mighty physical blows, and tendency to call in other great dragons. Lucky players might occasionally recruit a great dragon, bringing the monster's power over to their side.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2

A great dragon can be made by synthesizing a drakularge and a yabby.
