The slime stack is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest IX, it is, as indicated by its name, a stack of three slimes.
Characteristics
A slime stack is simply an organized stack of three slimes: a blue one on the bottom, red in the middle, and green on top.
Given that they are three slimes working together, they are fairly formidable when first confronted and especially exceed the sum of their parts.

The player may first encounter slime stacks on Newid Isle, where Alltrades Abbey and Porth Llaffen are, though they will first appear as seemingly normal slimes. However, these particular slimes are stronger than those previously faced and can call on other slimes, forming into a slime stack when three gather. On Pluvi Isle, the slime stacks appear as is.

Trivia
The slime stack, along with its related kin, are possibly a reference to a game-play mechanic in the Slime MoriMori series where it is possible to stack things on a slime, such as objects and monsters, including other slimes.
