The Monarchic mark is a recurring accessory in the Dragon Quest series. It gives a boost to the wearer's defence and spellcasting attributes.

Effect Increases the wearer's defence, magical might, and magical mending.
Increases the HP of person or object being defended. (Heroes only)
Increases the wearer's resistance against breath attacks. (Heroes II only)

Characteristics

The monarchic mark is a golden badge in the shape of an escutcheon featuring a coat of arms quartered blue and white. On the upper left, there is a golden downward-pointing sword and on the upper right, there is a golden trident-shaped cross that has been featured on many religious designs throughout the series.

Dragon Quest X

The monarchic mark was added to the game in Version 1.2, but it was eventually renamed to the Sovereign seal as its effects differed strongly from its previous appearance.

The recipe book Badges of Honour contains the recipe for the monarchic mark. It can be found in the treasure chamber at Sniflheim Castle behind a locked door that requires the Ultimate key to open.

The classic and luxury recipes for the monarchic mark can be dropped rarely by King slimes and King cureslimes.

Dragon Quest Heroes II

The monarchic mark increases the wearer's resistance to breath attacks by 15%, reaching to a total of 30% once it is fully upgraded. It will also give a +15 bonus to the wearer's max HP when it has been upgraded. Monarchic marks can be dropped by Knight Aberrants and Knight Abhorrents.
