The Wooper trooper is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest IX. It is a salamander soldier wielding a sword and shield.

Characteristics

Wooper troopers are anthropomorphic salamander swordsmen with sky blue skin wearing simple red tabards and horned helmets. Their equipment consists of simple copper swords and shields. They are well-versed in utilising their shields for their defence.

Description		Amphibious soldiers and adepts of defence who can be found patrolling around bodies of water. They're forever scraping their soles on seashells while on beach patrol, and have been saving up to buy boots.

Dragon Quest Tact

Wooper trooper appears as an E-rank monster of the Nature family as part of the Dragon Quest IX event. It can be scouted from the Memories of the Dead stage of "Be Kind to Monsters" at any difficulty.

Trivia

The wooper trooper, along with the rest of its variants, are based on the axolotl, an endangered species of salamander from Mexico. The name wooper itself references the term "wooper looper" (ウーパールーパー, Ūpārūpā), a term introduced by the Nissin Foods company to refer to their axolotl mascot, which first appeared in a 1985 commercial.
Additionally, the adding of "trooper" to the end draws a parallel to the turtle character from Super Mario, the Koopa Troopa - which in itself was likely a nod to the Abba song "Super Trouper", as well as being a generally obvious rhyme to use.
