Wyrtle

Wyrtle is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest III, it is a cross between a dragon (also known as a wyrm) and a turtle.

Characteristics

Wyrtles are large blue dragons that crawl on all fours like a turtle. Their most distinctive physical feature is the grey tortoise shell that covers its body, which they are able to withdraw in to defend themselves. They have long necks and tails like dragons. Wyrtles have a pair of long curved horns on tops of their heads, fins on either side of their face, and scales running down the length of their body, all colored orange. The undersides of their body are orange, as well. In combat, they are capable of utilizing different kinds of breath against unwitting adventurers, including Sweet Breath and Fire Breath.
