The existence of Zenithium is first alluded to by one of the robbin' 'oodlums working as a miner in the Quagmire Cave. The ore is found in the depths of Gaia's Navel off of the beaten path that leads to the Blue Orb, and when presented to the dwarf living in his eponymous shrine he will use it to reforge Ortega's Helm into the Auroral Helm.
Dragon Quest Builders

Zenithium appears in the final chapter of the game as the most durable ore avilable to the Builder. It is key substance from which the Auroral Armour, Hero's Shield, and many other objects are forged from.

Zenithium serves the same role in the sequel, being the material necessary for the Builder to craft the ultimate equipment.
