The Nintendo DS (Nintendo Dual Screen), sometimes abbreviated NDS or DS, is a handheld game console developed and manufactured by Nintendo released in 2004. The DS stands for "dual screen". The console features a clamshell design, with two LCD screens inside - one of which is a touch-sensitive screen.

The Nintendo DS Lite, released in 2006, is a slimmer, more lightweight redesign of the earlier Nintendo DS model; aesthetically sleeker to complement Nintendo's Wii, and to appeal to broader commercial audiences.

The Nintendo DSi, released in 2009, is an updated DS Lite with several new features, such as an SD card slot.

The Nintendo 'DSiXL, released in 2010, offers the same features as the DSi, only with a much larger screen.

Nintendo will release the 3DS in 2011, offering 3D (three dimensional) games.
