Marcello is the half-brother of Angelo and an antagonist in Dragon Quest VIII. He hated his brother because Angelo reminded him of his father. Marcello hated his father because his father had thrown him and his mother out of his house. Marcello's father then married Angelo's mother. Marcello's mother died. Marcello, with nothing left, joined the Templars. The positions he has acquired include Captain of the Templar Knights, the Abbot, the Commander of the Lord High Priest's Guard, the High Priest, and the Lord High Priest. He gained the position of Abbot because the original Abbot was murdered by Dhoulmagus. He became High Priest after he accused the original High Priest of murdering the Lord High Priest. Marcello also accused the Hero, his friends, and Rhapthorne of helping the High Priest with the scheme. Marcello planned to use the power of Rhapthorne and the position of the Lord High Priest to make a new world era. However, he was stopped by the Hero and his friends.

Marcello is the only character in the game to successfully resist possession by Rhapthorne, apparently being able to control Rhapthorne's power instead of being consumed by it by sheer force of will.
