Whistle is a recurring skill in the Dragon Quest series.

It is used to instantly call for a random monster and engage it in a battle.

Appearances edit

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation edit

In the Game Boy Color remake, it is learned by the Gadabout vocation at level 13.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen edit

In the remakes, Torneko Taloon learns this at level 12.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride edit

Learned by Sancho at level 24.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation edit

Whistle is learned by advancing to rank 2 of the Gadabout vocation.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past edit

Learned by reaching rank 5 of the Shepherd vocation.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King edit

Learned by Yangus after investing 4 points in to his Humanity skill tree.

  • With visible encounters being added to the the 3DS port, Whistle now draws monsters to the party from a visible distance. This unfortunately does not work on metal slimes.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies edit

This ability is learned with 28 skill points invested into Courage skill. In IX, Whistle now has an additional function in battle: it may enrage an enemy group.

Dragon Quest Monsters edit

This ability requires the monster to be at least level 4, with at least 28 MP, and 24 Intelligence. It is naturally learned by the GiantSlug, MadCandle, Slabbit and Watabou.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2 edit

Whistle now requires 44 Intelligence to learn.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker edit
