Betterflies are large, unusual moths with a teal, cartoonish dog-like face at the center of their bodies, their maws filled with sharp fangs that they use to bite with. Their wings are dark green with orange spots. In remakes and Dragon Quest of the Stars, the betterflies have a completely different colour scheme, having purple wings, bright green heads, and pink lips. Like their lesser blue cousins, betterflies are able to envelop enemies in illusions by casting Dazzle, and then poison them with their venomous fangs.
Brutal butterflies that dizzy with Dazzle, then pounce upon their victims with venomous fangs.
They've been worried about their weight of late, and are trying to balance their mortal-heavy diet by devouring more fish.
During Quest #24: Battering Betterflies, a farmer named George has asked the player to scare away ten betterflies from battle in the fields near Zere. If at least one character in the party is level 25 or higher, the betterflies will eventually flee on their own if the entire party defends on each turn. This quest can be repeated as many times as desired.
Betterfly began appearing in Version 7.0 along with Batterflies. They once again cast Dazzle and can call in more of themselves for the first time since III, but can now envenomate enemies with a poisonous powder.
