The Open Sea plays a central role in Dragon Quest VII. At the beginning of the story, the Hero, along with his friends and family live on the island of Estard, surrounded by nothing but bodies of water. But after a fateful visit to the Shrine of Mysteries that leads them to Ballymolloy, other islands begin to mysteriously appear in the present. Kiefer and the Hero have been working on an old fishing boat that once belonged to Mayor Mayde to make it seaworthy and it eventually allows them to travel to other islands. And after a change in the world, the party eventually gains access to the mighty Sea Dragon, as well.
Monsters[edit | edit source]
The monsters encountered at sea will remain the same from the early stages of the game until the events at the Cathedral of Blight. These monsters can also be encountered during the flood at Wetlock in the past. Afterwards, the only way to encounter these monsters again is at the Cave to Another World.
