Hypnowhip is an ability in the series.

Characteristics

This skill, normally performed with a whip, deals slightly more damage than a normal attack to either a single enemy or a group of enemies and has a chance of inflicting confusion, as well.

Appearances

Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake

Hypnowhip costs 7 MP to use, inflicting 30% more damage than a normal attack as physical-type damage and having a chance to confuse a single group of enemies. The Princess of Cannock learns the ability naturally at level 27, while the Princess of Moonbrooke can learn the skill by using the Hypnowhip Scroll, which is found in a treasure chest on 4F of the Tower of the Moon. It can be performed with any weapon equipped.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake

Hypnowhip costs 7 MP to use and inflicts 110% physical-type damage to a single group of enemies with a 13 chance of inflicting confusion before resistance applies. It can be learned by a Thief starting at Level 25 if their Wisdom exceeds 63 points. Unlike other games in the series, the skill can be used with any weapon. On the enemy side, it can be used by Tentacular.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King

Hypnowhip costs 2 MP to use, deals the same amount of damage as a normal attack to a single enemy, and has a 13% chance of inflicting confusion. Red learns Hypnowhip after allocating 10 skill points into her Whip skill.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies

Hypnowhip costs 3 MP to use, deals the same amount of damage as a normal attack to a single enemy, and has a 13% chance of inflicting confusion. It is learned by allocating 3 skill points into the Whip skill.

Dragon Quest X

Hypnowhip costs 3 MP to use, inflicts 10% more damage than a normal attack to a single enemy, and has a 75% chance of inflicting confusion for forty seconds. It can be learned by a Mage, Thief, and Monster Wrangler by allocating 3 skill points into their Whip skill, while a Fortune Teller can learn it after investing 160 skill points into their Whip skill.

Dragon Quest X Offline

Hypnowhip costs 3 MP to use, inflicts 20% more damage than a normal attack to a single enemy, and has a chance of inflicting confusion. It can be learned by the Hero as a Mage, Thief, or Monster Wrangler, and Duston through the Whips panel in their Character Builders for a single skill point. The damage and success rate of inflicting status effects can be increased further with Skill-Up Panels in the Character Builder.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age

Hypnowhip costs 5 MP to use and targets a single group of enemies, inflicting 10% more damage than a normal attack to the first enemy, and has a 25% chance of inflicting confusion on any enemies with no resistance. It can be learned by Veronica and Sylvando through the Whips panel in their Character Builders for 3 skill points.
