The Vermil lion is a monster in the series.

Characteristics edit

Vermil lions are chimeric beasts made from the parts of different demons, having a red and black colour scheme. They have red leonine manes, dragon-like wings with red membranes, and long tails ending in a tuft. The lions are able to build up their tension by being attacked, breathe out pitch-black darkness, and use Disruptive Wave against their opponents. The vermil lion's Japanese name references the Nue (鵺), a legendary yōkai described in the Tale of Heike as having the head of a monkey, the body of a tanuki, the limbs of a tiger, and the front half of a snake as a tail. Its English name is a play on vermilion, a red pigment and colour derived from powdered mineral cinnabar that was used since antiquity.
