The Flython and their cousins are hybrids of three genus of real world snakes; they combine the size of Pythonidae, the head shape and fangs of Viperidae, and the hoods of Elapidae (cobras). The latter trait is a humorous exaggeration, however; where as a cobra uses its hood for intimidation and defence, the Flython uses them to set sail on air currents.
The wing-like expanses of skin on the sides of these snakes' bodies enable them to sail through the air with astonishing ease. Rumour has it that once they reach one hundred years of age, they soar away into the sun, never to be seen again.
