Elepi are beige-colored octopi crossed with elephants, possessing large yellow eyes, a long trunk, and a pair of tusks on its face. They have 8 tentacles, 4 fleshy spikes on their heads, and their trunk and undersides are orange. In the 3DS version of {{VII, the elepus has purple glowing eyes instead of its normal yellow. It attacks using both its long tentacles and Flame Breath and is also known as something of a dancer, as well.
In the Official Guide Book for the Famicom version of IV, there is an illustration of an Elepus performing a dance while holding a fan in one of its many tentacles.
Appearances
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past
Etymology
Elepus's original Japanese name, Elephroper, is a combination of elephant and roper, a monster from the tabletop roleplaying game Dungeons & Dragons. Ropers are magical beasts resembling stalagmites that are covered in long tentacles which conceal a mouth.
