The lovers' locket is a key item in Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation, and is the physical testimony of the enduring bond between the late Eric and Olivia. It is required to access the Shrine of Shackles in order to retrieve the Mountaincleaver sword.

The locket belonged to Olivia, who gave it to her lover Eric before he was sent on a sea voyage. Eric's death on the voyage resulted in Olivia killing herself on the heights of a promontory that would come to bear her name. Being a restless ghost, Olivia now haunts the strait north of the cape, driving away all ships with a spectral force. Her grudge can only be quelled by using the locket near the strait, which frees Eric from his unjust imprisonment in the Ghost Ship and allows the lovers to reunite before ascending into the heavens together.
