The jailcat is a monster exclusive to the DS remake of Dragon Quest V, replacing the Baby sabrecat. It's possible to recruit one shortly after obtaining the wagon in Fortuna; the jailcat is somewhat unique being one of the earliest sources of ice magic (which normally isn't available until much later), and can last until the third generation.

The Baby Sabrecat was probably removed and replaced because it may be confusing to some players of why you are trying to help a Baby sabrecat while other Baby Sabrecats are attacking you.
