Lamia is the name of the legendary bird in Dragon Quest III. Lamia allows the hero and his party to travel through the air. This was the first occurence of this mode of travel in the Dragon Quest series. While traveling through the air, there are no random monster encounters.

Hatching Lamia

Lamia's egg is located at a shrine in Liamland. The egg is surrounded by 6 pedestals which are meant to hold the 6 orbs. Once all 6 orbs are in place, Lamia hatches from her egg and is available for the player to use.

Usage

Lamia is necessary to complete the game. Lamia is the only method to access Baramos' Castle, the Pit of Gaia, and the Dragon Queen's Castle which are all game necessary locations.

Limitations

Lamia cannot land anywhere where the party cannot walk. This includes high mountains, water, cities/towns/shrines, and dungeons. Lamia is also not available in Alefgard.
