The spiked hare is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series and a popular one, being a juxtaposition of cute and menacing. It first appeared in Dragon Quest III.
A spiked hare is identical in looks to a bunicorn, only having purple fur instead of gray. Originally, it was pink colored and the original concept art reflected this. Later, it became a darker purple.
In terms of strength, the typical spiked hare is often a threat encountered early on, usually at around the time when the lesser bunicorn is no longer troublesome. It is often capable of building up its strength to launch a powerful attack.
These rabbit monsters are know for their tetchiness. One of the oldest species of monster, an ancient tome speaks of a great king who once kept them as pets
The Spiked hare appears as an E-rank monster of the Beast family as part of the limited Dragon Quest III event. It can be recruited from Chapter 1, Episode 2: Patty's Pub at any difficulty, as well as Chapter 16, Episode 2: A Misunderstanding of the main storyline. The spiked hare can participate in the Armful and Patissier knight's Battle Roads as a party member.
