A Robbin' 'oodlum is one of six golden-armoured bandits with the appearance of restless armours that aid Robbin' 'Ood in Dragon Quest III.

Each one has a green tassel at the top of his helm. Like their leader, the 'oodlums have gone on to make regular appearances throughout the Dragon Quest series.

Localization history

The robbin' 'oodlum is the same monster as the merry man and robbin' huddle, with the three being named カンダタこぶん (Kandata kobun) in Japanese. The robbin' 'oodlum name has been used three times where as robbin huddle name is only used in Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation for the second encounter to signify that the goons are slightly stronger than in the previous fight. All other appearances of the カンダタこぶん use merry man to better match their boss' Robin Hood pun.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation

When Robbin' 'Ood is first encountered at Skyfell Tower, he is joined by three henchmen who appear identical to his huddles known as robbin' 'oodlums. When their boss is encountered again at Kidnapper's Cave, east of the town of Baharata, his henchmen are six in number, and are now known as robbin' huddles. Four of these henchmen keep watch over their prisoners from Baharata, Tanaya and Gopal Gupta, and when the Hero comes to save the young couple, they engage them in battle. Though Robbin' 'Ood shows up with two more robbin' huddles to stop the Hero's party, they are also defeated. Soon after, Robbin' 'Ood vows to change his ways and takes leave.

Though the Hero and company encounter Robbin' 'Ood again, he is alone and without henchmen.

Robbin' 'Oodlum appears as a B-rank monster of the ??? family. He could originally join the party in the Round Up the Robbin' 'Oodlums!: Advanced Bounty Quest and could be awakened by completing the quest at any difficulty. However, starting from Version 4.0 of the game, he can be recruited from Chapter 2, Episode 6: Robbin' 'Ood instead. The henchmen will aid their leader in various battles, such as the ??? Rank Up quests. Robbin' 'Oodlum can participate in the Blossom Hammerhood's Battle Road as a party member.
